It Began with Strong Business Leaders

The year was 1947 when a group of business leaders got together and decided to start an organization for the purpose of attracting and enhancing the business climate in the county-seat. It became official on August 7, 1947 when the Morris Business Men's Association, incorporated received their Articles of Incorporation.

We have gone through some name changes including the Morris Regional Chamber, the Grundy County Association and, our current, the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry but the core mission has remained the same: promoting the area as a great place to live, work, visit and do business.

Through the years, the Chamber has assisted in starting other councils or organizations that are still going strong today. The Business Education Council, Grundy Economic Development Council and the Grundy County Corn Festival all got their start from the Chamber's leadership. Our newest project, the HR Task Force has officially become the Grundy-Will HR Association - bringing human resource professionals from the region together to share ideas and best practices.

In 2001, the Chamber moved into the former Rock Island Train Depot and in 2005 we purchased the building which now serves as our main office. In 2006, the Chamber opened our first branch office in Coal City. In 2011 the Chamber merged operations with the Greater Channahon Minooka Area Chamber and created the Channahon Minooka Chamber Division adding to the Chamber's service with the Minooka location. These initiatives are meant to strengthen and grow the Chamber.

As you can see by the list to the left, the Chamber is still governed by a dedicated Board of Directors that set the vision and goals of the organization.

As we celebrate our beginnings, we pause to say thank you to all of the business leaders that have worked so hard to start and keep this organization going. It is through the members who have served on the board, on a committee and participated in Chamber activities that have allowed the Chamber to grow and stand where we are today.
